<DAZ_melissamae> We'd like to welcome Alyssia (3DCelebrity) as our featured guest today! Alyssia G. Indermuehle's true passion lies in the digital creation of the human form. She has always been fascinated with people, their character, and capturing their uniqueness, whether it be on paper, in clay, the canvas, or 3D. During a digital career that spans 15 years, she has had the opportunity to be involved with many exciting projects that allowed her to capture the human likeness, such as the cloning of the band members of "TLC" in 3D for BMG/Arista Records, the creation of the 30+ cast for the films of the Mystery Park in Interlaken, Switzerland, and now creating characters for Daz3D. Alyssia excels in the creation of morphs and textures that bring 3D characters to life, and makes each one a 3DCelebrity

<3DCelebrity> Hello all! It's awfully early here in Australia, it's 5am! Thank you for coming to the chat!
<kulay> How did you start in 3d?
<3DCelebrity> I started in graphic design when I was working for the US Air Force in the early 1990's and I was selected to start their first fully functioning animation facility at Hill AFB for Combat Camera.
<3DCelebrity> After I left the military I went to Switzerland to work for MTV productions.
<3DCelebrity> So basically, I got really lucky as 3D wasn't my first choice!
<kulay> Which is your favorite character?
<3DCelebrity> My favourite character is Victoria 4. But the favourite character pack I've created is definitely Charlotte because I love her face.
<Dementia> What kind of programs do you use?
<3DCelebrity> Currently I use Poser 6 and 7, DAZ Studio, Adobe Photoshop, ZBrush and Cinema 4D/BodyPaint
<3DCelebrity> I work both on Mac and PC
<leolore> Thanks for coming in so early! What are the top personality traits you try to define that 'make the character'?

<3DCelebrity> That's a very interesting question. It has to be someone that's believable, someone that seems approachable and most importantly someone that reminds everyone of someone special they know.
<kulay> How long does it take you to finish a project from start to finish?
<3DCelebrity> That depends greatly on the complexity of the project. I can't give you an exact amount of time, sometimes I spend a lot of time on the morphs and other times I spend more time on the texturing. It really varies.
<warreng_online> Have you ever completed a human character for toon-styled render with realistic dynamics but with a toon render also? And if so, was it used for animation?
<3DCelebrity> for instance, the last character I created took two weeks for texturing and morphing.
<3DCelebrity> No. My specialty has always been in photorealism (or as close to it as possible). I have done toons but they weren't human.
<3DFineArtist> Alyssia, have you done any replica models of different actors in any major motion films? If so, who? I read somewhere that you have done replicas of some famous singing artists.
<3DCelebrity> It seems there are some problems, I apologize for the delay in responding to your questions
<DAZ_Biggie> There are certainly some issues... apologies... please bear with us...
<3DCelebrity> No haven't worked in any major motion films. The most famous person I have created for film was Erich von Däniken, author of "Chariots of the gods" for his theme park. I did create the band members of TLC after Lisa Lopez died for their album "3D" for Arista Records. I did start out by replicating famous people such as Bjork, Russell Crowe and John Coffey in the 1990's which is what got me noticed.
<3DCelebrity> I've cloned quite a few people that are not famous. As I'm not an animator it's simply the modelling and texturing of the character. That's the bext part anyway! LOL
<Dementia> What gives you inspiration?
<3DCelebrity> That's also a wonderful question! I'm a people watcher and I adore nothing more than having a coffee and watching people. It's amazing how similar we all look yet we look so different at the same time. It's those little moments that capture who we are and that's what inspires me, to try to recreate those beautiful things I see in people.
<3DCelebrity> I also would like take this opportunity to let everyone know who wants to see my artwork they can visit my website at http://www.3dcelebrity.com as I've not had a chance yet to upload anything to my art zone.
<3DCelebrity> please note that my website will be down for the duration of this chat
<Bryceheart-- Bryce Evangelist> Alyssia... thanks for serving our country and for sharing with us today. What would you suggest artists do to get this fairly young medium and art form to be more readily accepted and recognized by the mainstream art world as a whole?
<3DCelebrity> Can you define "mainstream art world"? if you're talking about Picasso, Monet, Rothko, Pollock etc. I don't think digital art will ever be in the same realm. It's a beast of its own, the two can't possibly compete with each other. You're always going to have people that think if you're not touching it and moulding it with your hands it's not art. All I can say is that we have to accept digital art for what it is and appreciate that beauty that is created. In time we will see that it is more readily accepted. For those who are looking for inspiration they really have to look within themselves. An artist creates with whatever tool they have. Whether it be a brush, a mouse or a tablet, to me it's still art!
<Kittylitter> Do you generally work adapting base models like V4 to specific requirements or do you create characters from scratch?
<3DCelebrity> I began creating from scratch and moved away from modelling into working with characters like V3 and V4.
<TesseractSpace> Do you plan to make any more hair items? The Ginger and Georgia sets are lovely
<3DCelebrity> Thank you very much! I just began a new hair today. I aspire to make hair that is more photo realistic and so hopefully you'll see some great new products soon! Currently I have some really great characters in the works, they should be released around the 27th of March and one of them is going to be for free. Check back with DAZ around that time to pick it up!
<wawadave 1> what do you think of bryce6.1?
<3DCelebrity> LOL, good question! I haven't had a chance to download it yet, but I'm sure it's great!
<warreng_online> How do you get the texturing to comply with the soft toon-styled skin tones with its 'elasticity' and shine or is that post work in another application all together?
<3DCelebrity> All the textures are initially created in Photoshop and the seams are then painted out in BodyPaint. I can't help but wonder if people are interesting in a tutorial on how to do this? I never post work except for composition on promo images. I reserve post work for gallery images for personal use, or client work, but never on a product.

<greywolfe1960> If you could give one piece of advice to someone interested in creating their own characters, what would it be?
<DAZ_melissamae> to ask Alyssia a question, click on QusetionBot link in upper right hand chat window and submit your question as a private message. This will queue up your question for the moderators.
<3DCelebrity> If you think that scanning somebody in 3D catches their likeness, think again! There's so much that goes into making a character look real! it's like people that you see in a photograph that never look like the person you know. Some people are unique in the way to move and talk, others are statuesque and easier to recreate. My advice would be: Create a character that you're passionate about because that's when the character will shine through.
<mike_on_fire> I saw a movie about a mad scientist who shrunk human beings to the size of dolls so he could play with them. Are 3d character modellers creepy like that, too?
<3DCelebrity> LOL! If we are creepy, we try to keep it inside, but some of us do it better than others... But I definitely think the word "mad" (as in "obsessed") applies to all people creating characters.
<3DCelebrity> LOL
<danaL> Hi and good morning...do you take a sketch book with you when you are out , to help you create your charachters?
<3DCelebrity> No, I have a photographic memory. Just kidding... of course I do! I'm that crazy person you see in the park doodling away on their sketchpad.
<DAZ_Biggie> We're coming to the end of the chat, so we'll take a couple more uestions in just a sec
<DAZ_Biggie> but first

<Dementia> Alyssia, a tutorial would be a godsend! There are tutorials out there on character creation, but none to my knowledge on the way you work. Would you be willing to put a tutorial on your future 'to do' list?
<3DCelebrity> Absolutely. I just never know what exactly people want to learn. I'm more than willing to share some of my techniques via a tutorial. Send me messages on what it is you all want to know!
